Kisima Farm - At the end of the First World War, Will Powys drew several thousand acres around Kisima spring in the foothills of Mount Kenya under the soldier settler scheme. This was fortunate as the spring ensured his land had water and enabled him to survive the years ahead when many other settlers did not. Will went to work for an established farmer, taking his pay in trees, stock and machinery. In 1927, he was able to start his business at Kisima, 8000 feet above sea level. Will married Elizabeth and together they had three children: Rose, who lives at Ngare Ndare, Charles, who was killed in a gun accident in 1964 and Gilfrid, who chaired the Kisima board for 47 years and is the head of the Kisima enterprise. Members of the Powys Dyer family continue to work with and on Kisima farm.  Gilfrid Powys, Anne Powys, Francis Dyer and Michael Dyer are board members. Martin Dyer - General Manager of Kisima Flowers. Charles Dyer - General Manager of Foundation and Forestry. Supported by Shaun Miller - General Manager of Kisima Farm. Kisima was incorporated in 1943. Kisima is 100% Kenyan owned and operated.

Marania Farm - Marania farm has been in existence for about 100 years, with Merino Wool Sheep being the main enterprise and business that built the farm. Over time, wool prices have fallen and the Merino Sheep have now been replaced by Hampshire Down Sheep, whose main market is meat. Irralie Murray was instrumental in introducing Aberdeen Angus cattle to Marania and it is now is the only Aberdeen Angus stud in East Africa. The farm prides itself on supplying the best quality beef to a restaurant in Nairobi. George Murray investigated and introduced the option of growing crops in the farm and today, crops are the main enterprise. The farm plants wheat, barley, oats, peas, canola and Rhodes grass. Marania farm is 2,600ha, split 1,300ha for arable and 1,300ha for grazing.  Marania has invested in modern machinery, all equipped with satellite steering systems, with the precision agriculture model in mind. Their main aim is to make sure Marania farms as efficiently as possible and minimise losses due to inaccuracies. For more information about Marania, please contact James at  This email address is being protected from spambots. In the mid-1990s, Tim and Maggie Hobbs - a young and dynamic couple with Kenyan roots, came across a beautiful, derelict farm on the foothills of Mount Kenya only miles from the Equator.
The 64-hectare farm, originally producing dairy and beef, was up for sale and with its perfect conditions for growing roses, the Hobbs bought and developed it into what it is today: a leading specialist supplier of traditional garden scented roses- the only one in Kenya.
Tambuzi is an ethically run business with one simple goal – to produce the very finest garden scented roses that money can buy. The roses are carefully selected and grown for weddings and special events and find their way into many florist shops across the world from our farm in Nanyuki.

Raka Cheese

“There was once a chat about our favorite cheeses and before you knew it, we were making our own”, Managing Director Kalpa Padia explains as she looks back on how Raka Cheese was born.

It was 2002 and her husband Rajesh Padia became increasingly passionate about cheese and especially making it in Nyeri, Kenya. It is a straight two-hour drive from Nairobi and now the largest town in the Nyeri County and is the home of the grave of the scouting Movement’s founder, Lieutenant-General Lord Baden-Powell, and his cottage, called Paxtu, are popular attractions. (Source: www.wikipedia.org). It is also where Princess Elizabeth went up the Treetops Lodges and came down a Queen in 1952.

He made Raka Cheddar and distributed it to one of the country’s leading supermarket chain. Currently Raka has grown and has over five varieties and with over ten years experience in the food industry it is already shaping up to be a market leader in Kenya.

While in 2010 Raka lost its better half, Rajesh (remember the name Raka comes from Rajesh and Kalpa), his wife Kalpa has taken over and handling it brilliantly with her team of excellent and loyal workers that have stayed on, grown and are raring to keep the sun rays soaring.

It has also penetrated into the export markets of Juba, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda and Tanzania proof of Expanding tastes and appreciation of Raka products.

Our cheese is suitable for vegetarians and has received the Halal Certificate.
